Arsenal's Mesut Ozil on Pace for Premier League Career Record Ahead of Manchester United Legend

Mesut Ozil's exploits as Arsenal's chief assist-provider have propelled him to an assists per game Premier League record.

Since joining the Gunners from Real Madrid, the enigmatic German has been involved in a startling majority of Arsenal's goals, mostly providing assists for his teammates to score.

His affinity for creating chances has placed him in the upper echelons of creative midfielders over the years, and the World Cup winner's Premier League statistics put him top of the pile in assists.

The 27-year-old has 33 assists to his name. Admittedly, this is rather far removed from Manchester United's Ryan Giggs, who has a Premier League record 162. But Giggs did play in English football for upwards of 20 years, whereas Ozil has only been at Arsenal since 2013 after his £37.4m move.

What is really impressive is the World Cup winner's assists per game. Stats collated by Dream Team show that Ozil has 0.37 assists per game - well ahead of Giggs's, or anyone else in Premier League history for that matter. This statistic truly demonstrates Ozil's influence at Arsenal on a regular basis.
Surprisingly, in second place in terms of the assists per game stat is one Eric Cantona, with 0.36. Following him in third is Cesc Fabregas with 0.33 assists per game.

Former Arsenal midfielder Jose Antonio Reyes is another surprise addition to the top five. The Spaniard is in fourth place with 0.3, joint with Manchester City's David Silva.

Completing the top 10 are the likes of legends David Beckham, Dennis Bergkamp, and Thierry Henry, and the not-so-legendary Nani and Eyal Berkovic.

So, despite only scoring 17 goals for Arsenal in three seasons, Ozil's assisting more than compensates.
